Reducing The Size of Government

In my 28 year career, I have been a consistent leader for smaller Government. We all know how Arizona got in the mess we're in. Governor Napolitano spent all the money Arizona had -- including the rainy day fund -- and she spent billions Arizona didn't have. She grew Arizona's government to unsustainable levels, and left others to clean up the mess.

* Enacted more than $1 billion in permanent budget reductions, eliminating state programs and services, and substantially reducing the state's work force -- the most of any Arizona governor in state history.

* Reduced the number of state employees by 10%.

* As Secretary of State, I consolidated workforce assignments, eliminated staff overtime, and eliminated various other non-essential expenditures.
